On good and bad, I heard a rumor that Offbeatr might be closing down soon, so that had me stop everything else and focus on really makinf sure I finished adding all the content that's exclusive reward tiers from the crowdfunding.
And with that nearly done by now, I should be able to send out the Offbeatr exclusive "version" of LoQO: Origin - Episode 1 before next Tuesday that includes special equipment to some, and a mature Farah skin for teen Farah to others!
In other news, the "cheat necklace" will be returning in a different form for the next beta, with a more variety of acceptable codes and no longer punishing gamers by disabling titles/trophies or save access like it did back in LoQOII.
And probably the largest change I have to announce...is a change of heart!
Dafuq, you say? Well, I've come across a VA that has changed my opinion on the non-voiced protagonist so I've decided to actually have the character voiced after all.
Some might be a bit weary of that since a terribly voiced main character can ruin a whole game, but what would you say if Devon, the protagonist, had the voice and talent of...say, Booker DeWitt from Bioshock Infinite...?
Lastly, but not the least, the High Lord Gathering is soon upon us, and the introduction of Queen Opala imminent as she makes her case to the council in hopes of gaining the support of the Beldorian Empire in the war against An'Terra both the kingdom of Namaria and Egypt is fighting.
But they are a corrupt bunch, so here is your chance to pitch an idea of what they'll demand of Opala on the spot if she wants to prove her commitment and gain their favor... >;D

DeleteYou certainly know how to inspire intrigue! I do worry that with the reconnect with 2 there is the possibility of a cannon ending being set in place, not to mention the possibility of crazy overpowered heroes we could have created last instalment being trounced off screen.
I'm actually wondering about the posibility to one day go back and edit LoQOII in such a way that you can transfer choises and save file over into Origin without screwing something up...I think it can be done, but it would be difficult. x3

Ok so i've been think about the Ophala suggestion and i think this would be a good opportunity to introduce an Opala oriented minigame. It's essentially the 3 cup guessing game(i don't know how its called in english) only with Opala hiding the marble in one of three places(mouth, tits or pants). I imagine it working in a similar way to the fight in LOQO 2 where you could select between the PC and the necklace. So you find a dude in the world and you make a bet with him, a battle Pouse of Ophala comes up the 3 selected parts. At first it can be for money later on it can be for other more risky stuff. And as i said the introduction can be playing this game with a highlord fore high stakes if you guess right and the pebble is in here mouth you get to cum in her mouth if you lost and the pebble is in her tits he gets a tits fuck etc.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, male voice acting rarely comes off as well as Fem VA to me, why i always play Fem chars when given the option. If not talking bad about this guy if sure hell do great. and to be honest even Clown girls voice is a bit high pitched to me, sensitive ears, so an option to turn voices off would be lovely. Although I relive that this late in the game it may not be an option, and even then looking at the way rpgmaker handles stuff it still might not be, Its just a suggestion, not saying its a deal breaker but its kind of an ehhhh... to me.

How about something with options similar to the Madam request scenes in LoQo II where the player chooses the extent Opala will go. (The farthest extreme doesn’t have to be the best choice.)
*Animal – She does a belly dance reminiscent of her mother’s famous snake dance, Player chooses the animal.
*Bukkake/Swallowing – Public performance, Player chooses how many (or from what).
*Inflation – She must plead her case before the council after being creampied by XX number of Members and MUST NOT leak any, Player chooses how many.
*Insertion – Similar to Inflation above but with magically vibrating stones. She needs to keep her composure and not orgasm until after the council gives her their answer (and obvious some Members want to drag the debate out). Play chooses how many.
*”Leadership” – Opala must make an entire group come to simultaneous orgasm. How many she takes on at once is Player’s choice.
Totally different concept: she must prove Egypt’s (and more specifically the Ruler of Egypt’s) famous connection to their Deities. She then surprises them by giving herself over to one of the female Deity to enjoy some Earthly Pleasure.
So the dude named Unkown above me ^^ suggested the use of a dragon in Opala and the council. But why not drag it out and turn it into a spin of a RPG monster slaying quest. Opala has to do a good deed for the Beldorian Empire which is defeating a dragon that has been terrorizing the land. The corrupt councilman can suggest it to make it sort of impossible for Opala. But Devon and his party can accompany her to help. So they go to the dragon and we can have a boss fight. After that, one of two things can happen. It turns out that the dragon is really tough and can regenerate but it's weak since you just beat it. You can choose to slay it for renegade path or negotiate with it for heroic. There can be different ways to appease the dragon and make sure it doesn't attack the Beldorian Empire again. One way in particular could be that Opala can periodically come and satisfy it.......starting right now of course :) then you return to the council (with some kind of proof like the dragon flying down and saying sorry before flying away) and proceed with the story. It's one hell of detour though. But Opala dragon sex though.....
ReplyDelete^^^ You know what that is a very interesting to do it. I was thinking maybe have Opala compete in a "special Tournament" where she has to test her might as leader. Have her go against Slaved Bandits, Futa female warriors/mages, crazed horny monsters and ect. Its like a small segment where you get to play as her and maybe help her out by partnering her up with one of the female squad members you got with you at the time. This will make different sex scenes choices and rewards and bad endings LOL :)

Have Devon have a side mission to discover that these bunch of corrupt lords are being paid by the emperor to not agree to help the other two kingdoms, no matter what she say and having her (with the help of young Farah) "persuade" them to break their loyalty to Crayden and maybe they can have some private time discussing really deep in negotiations ;D
Or maybe have her fight naked in a mud arena against other naked woman.
So just a couple of game play questions; would it be possible to maybe add a option to go directly to the city entrance when you go on your mission with Crayden? like a "i'll go with you" or "i just need to do something, see you there" option would be good just so you don't have to go all the way through the city. Also will there be loosing scenes like in LoqO2? (the ones with the Oniquines and the Giganto Brutus) The monsters that could have scenes could be the monsters that have in there bio that they tend to rape women like the slimebags for example. that's all i can think of for now, keep up the good work :)

Weeeelll in my personal experience the girls are always louder than the guys in porn so it's not a big deal. But people can have different standards for different things. Maybe since they are used to only girls being voice acted in loqo, the protagonist being voice acted may feel too different. And players can put themselves into the loqo scenes more because they are pretending to be the main character. But when you give them a voice, it takes you out of it. Ruins the immersion for some. Im in favor of a way to mute the protagonist's voice just to have the option for people who aren't into it.

DeleteAniway the discussion between the silent protagonist and the voiced protagonist is an old one and i get what you're saying but let me ask you this did you have any problems roleplaying in games like mass effect, the witcher, dragon age i, diablo 3, bioshock i etc because the general consensus of the players is no, you can roleplay without any problems, the problem arises when it's half assed and poorly implemented fallout 4 is a great example of that. Now here's the thing a silent protagonist works best for a game when he's a blank slate fallout 3 is a great example of that you're literally born into the world, Loqo main characters arent blank slate they have somewhat of a personality more akin to mass effect. So to me it makes so much sense that he should be voice acted!
Well when I play mass effect, I'm not playing myself, I'm playing John Shepard. Even when I change the name I will still be referred to as commander Shepard. But Loqo protagonists only have there first name so when I change it and other characters call me by my name, I become the character even further. It's like playing Pokemon/Digimon games. And in loqo 2 and origins, the ability to choose a path which is good or evil further allows me to put myself into the game. Hell, in origins you can almost determine Devon's personality for yourself. There were so many conversation trees in episode 1 where I can be serious or funny, selfish or generous, prude or perverted. Devon isn't necessarily a blank slate but his personality is far more subject to change. Jake's personality was set in stone and Kai had some room for change but not nearly as much as Devon so them being voice acted makes much more sense to me then Devon. And after playing loqo 1, 2, and the betas for origin so much, having the character be voice acted is just too strange. I've already attached my voice to them. I'm not role playing as if I was Devon. I'm role playing as me.

Maybe you can just delete all of the male voice acting MP3 files from the game's folder. But that might make it crash. You probably will have to replace all of the male MP3s with blank MP3 files that are renamed to match, then you can get rid of the annoying male voice over.
DeleteGotta say i completely disagree with you on the hole just playing John Shepard, i made the comparison between Devon and Shepard because there basic character building(if i can call it that)is practically identical, both these characters have two distinct good and bad paths that you can choose between and its here that the character defining moments happen and in between there's a lot of flavor text/dialog in which you can fine tune you're character to your specific preference. Now that, i think is an apt description of both characters from an rpg point of view, so you saying that you can determine Devon's personality for yourself thru the conversation trees to basically mimic your own but not with Shepard, i just don't see how that's possible when MS has that only ten times more because of money manpower and engine capabilities. As for the voice acting and roleplay i just rp that that's my voice in that univers.

Delete(Before I go any further let me make clear that I am not at all hating on Mass Effect. I love that series) here's the thing about mass effect conversation trees (at least in ME 2 and 3 cause I never played 1) you have the entire left side of the conversation tree dedicated soley to questions so I can get more information from the conversation. Then on the right you can go upper right for paragon good guy dialogue, lower right for renegade, and sometimes middle for a neutral stance. You determine if Shepard is a generous, charismatic leader or if he is a fierce, selfish warrior to be feared. Plus, with your crew mates survival on the line and I'm a sucker for happy endings where my crew survives, I'm forced to play all paragon and not do renegade when I feel it's appropriate.
DeleteBut with Devon, even though the interface is simpler, there are alignments other than heroic or renegade. There are much more choices that lead to actions. And in a game where sex is prominent, your choices lead to if u see a sex scene or not, or a variation of a sex scene. For example, meeting Gabrielle for the first time. You can save her as a good guy, or hide and do nothing and watch her get fucked then come out later with her none the wiser. In the first sex scene with Fara, choosing to stop the show or watch it before setting her free. Shows whether Devon values sex over the mission or helping someone. In the tent scene with Farah. Letting her do her thing u just get a blowjob. But be more aggressive and you get doggystyle. This choice doesn't make u good or bad but determines what kind of lover u are. The sex scenes with laquadia, whether you see them it not shows what kind of person u are, whether you would extort someone or take them by force if they did something bad to u but at the same time still feeling justified. The scene at the inn. It can determine whether Devon is more selfish or just likes to hog the women (or if he just doesn't believe in sharing someone he likes which is understandable). Or he can be inclusive. But even if he does include Kythe, how enthusiastic is he about human and non human sex? U can determine this if he encourages Farah to Kiss Kythe. Then what about Farah's mini game (and every dialogue with her for that matter)? Are u a prude, do u accept Farah's views on sex, or do u encourage them? Or u a guy who would share his woman and allow others to see and touch her. And all of these personality traits and more are separate from whether you are a hero or villain.
And as far as voice acting goes, it's hard for me to Rp my voice in certain situations. In this situation, not only do I already associate a voice with Devon, but my Devon is black. And Booker Dewitt from Bioshoch is gonna voice act him? That's just me though. He could probably make it work but....

Personally, I could never enjoy having the PC talking during a sex scene. I don't think I'm the only one, either.
Maybe the ability to toggle it on/off, at least?
But to be fair some people are getting gung-ho about jumping to the conclusion that the sex scene will be voiced acted! First and foremost more information is needed, we simply don't know what will be voiced acted or not.

You may like the idea of a male VA. I don't. Other people don't. We have just as much right to voice our opinion as you do, without you trying to shut down the discussion.
I am personally indifferent to the idea of a voiced male protagonist this far into the game's development, but at the end of the day it's Gabe's vision and we should all be willing to accept it.
ReplyDeleteBTW Gabe, I hate to be that guy, but Troy Baker did voice the Joker in Arkham Origin's and the DC animated movie "Assault on Arkham." He also voiced Robin and Two-Face in Arkham City.
Oh, and as far as the Opala scene is concerned, I would love to see the Futa-bitch bodyguard of one of the Lord's about to lead a train of men, women and monsters on Opala, and Devon being given a choice as to whether or not he wants to stop her before it starts.

If you can't afford to keep paying you can just cancel the pledge and re pledge whenever you feel like. Just keep in mind pledges are received around the end/beginning of a month. So if you pledge on Feb 14, you are not getting any rewards until probably the beginning of March.

DeleteYeah your account gets billed and you get an email from Gabe's Patreon. However I'm not sure if she makes the latest beta available to you automatically. When I got my first beta it was back before she started using Patreon just yet and was still accepting donations through paypal. After that I just waited for whenever she released a new beta while I was on Patron and downloaded it. She sends emails out once they are ready with links. You will need to ask her about that. You can email her about it or post a question on Patreon.

It just delays when the official release comes out because you rob Gabe of much needed crow funding. Irrelevant now but it was stupid at the time I think. :/
DeleteHonestly Im not much interested in a voiced protagonist. As Fallout 4 found out, i think its a fad with remarkably little payoff. However as long as there is a way to switch it off I dont mind. Otherwise Ill have to play the game without volume and while Im okay with female characters being voiced and would rather hear them if thats what it takes its what Ill have to do i guess.

Its not a big issue as its only episode 1 so theres plenty more chances for more variety, but still cutscenes with blowjobs and titjobs are now firmly at the bottom of my "want to see list" for further installments.
