One beta later...!
Most people don't know how darn close it was I didn't make it, but working overtime every day since last Tuesday managed to push me over the finish line and release the latest beta on the day I promised last week...although, I did had to streamline the experience onboard the Magna Gerulus and lock away one of the longer cutscenes to not halt the progress.
So that is basically what I have been doing this week, polishing what I could and add side-content.
That included over 30 optional illustrations, which might not sound impressive at first, until you think about them having to be added to the world, updated into the art gallery, included within the encyclopedia and then double-checked to make sure everything about those parts are working.
And thus, more shit needs to be done! Be back next Tuesday, y'all!
Gabe i love your work but why is the MC taking a backseat to the sex scenes? I honestly though by now the MC would have had sex with all the party members multiple times. Before people tell me he has sex scenes, but not all the scenes he's in is sex scenes. This is not a burn or flame whatever its called but a fan that hopes that the main guy gets more love than just sprite action.

DeleteI decided to count everything for the heck of it. By counting all the CG scenes/scenarios without counting how many illustrations there are per scene, since I noticed that in some scenes one artist had more than others.

This is excluding the scene with Laquadia where you spot her in the bath, since nothing happens there. And exluding the dream weaver keys since they are not a part of the main story, based on their function more as a game mechanic. Which also means that I'm excluding strippin' o' die and the tavern wench challenges.
If we decide to get technical and use everything(also from mini games) then the ratio becomes:
Scenes with MC involved: 38
Scenes without MC involved: 27
From a pure "scene" perspective, not illustrations and trading cards.
If get even more technical and count every drawn illustration in one CG scene, the MC wins again. Since the scenes without the MC is give or take at least 15-20 illustrations behind. Depending on the artist and so on. Don't quote me exactly on the number, but after writing it up the MC scenes had a huge marginal lead.
At one point, by counting the scenes being added, since I know that Gabe adds CG scenes with numbers, when they are done. I noticed that the scene ratio was 4-5 images in favor of scenes without the MC at one point. So I believe this is where some misconception might have been formed. At least if the individual who brings up the issue is an old or long time patreon supporter. Because based on this it looks like at one point there was more scenes without the MC being added for a tiny period.
Its a bit of a stretch to claim that the MC is in the backseat I'd say when there is only 1 image more in the other category at the moment. If we look at it from a pure scene perspective. After all this can shift either way in the future, due to the game not being done.
If the issue was brought up back when the ratio was 4-5 scenes more in scenes without the MC then I'd understand it more. But it looks like Gabe has shifted away from this and kept stuff more balanced. Intentional or not.
Of course if we throw in all the stuff you can collect then everything shifts in the other direction, but this content is, after all, optional and doesnt't add anything to the main story. But by that point we're grasping at straws. From a pure scene perspective, the MC is not too far off. So it is almost a 50/50 split.

SO the split is 20/24 favor of Voyeur scenes. Minigames like strip and dice, street groping or cum drinking don't count, that is just portrait art. Scene variation from horse to wolf shouldn't count it's not a new scene just a re-colored slight adjustment, if that counted than why wouldn't fan art in game count towards non MC scenes.
Gabe seriously we only complain because we really want to enjoy this game, but it really feels like a lot of recent stuff this last year isn't what the game started out as and excited us for the future and it's completion. The story breaks its back to not give us more scenes and explanations like their was no time in story or it wouldn't fit is really weak when we have time to cut to Laquadia in the minotaur den or we have time to watch Gabrielle get gangraped.
I wish gabe was a Japanese so we can get a full ntr game or full harem game, but yeah, he was not.

Twenty-six: I think you are confusing the sprite scene with the CG scene. The "Juggernaut" as you call him doesnt do anything in the scene, other than pinning Osira down. So thats -1 on the voyeur count for me.
Following your way of counting I get 21 before the two dream weaver scenes, throw them in then we're at 23. (I seperated two scenes into both camps in my old count, but I'll remove them to follow your way of counting).
Even though I personally dont count the dream weaver keys due to the nature that they can be considered canon or non canon depending on what the player thinks. But I'll meet you there.
So that leaves a total of: 21 MC 23 not MC.
Still not a huge margin. And yes like I did before, I dont double count human MC and beast MC in mine.

DeleteOkay I looked at the throne room scene and that one is kind of a problem, in the sparrow art she is licking him and groping too, but in the other art style she isn't, and I used Sparrows for most of my counts so that was where I arrived at that number.
No it's not a huge margin, but it still exists and a lot of people seem annoyed at it. Yes this game has more MC actions than the past, it's a much better game in most people's minds for that reason. And when it began it was an expectation based on polls and posts that it was going to keep up what the opening gave, a proactive MC that fucks not a reactive voyeur. The pace and choice of scenes is baffling and in game consistently doesn't even work at the moment from what characters say to what happens.
Dont worry, the scene count wasn't easy to keep track of for me either.

I haven't been around for too long, so I dont know all the poll results in the past. But I can certainly understand that people will feel frustrated if they feel that the results aren't followed. But they still need to remember that the game is in beta. Things can change and the margin will probably keep shifting back and forth. As the story goes on.
And who knows, perhaps a scene will be slipped in later for an earlier point of the game as well? Game development often does that after all.
And I understand that people will feel frustrated if the character they want doesnt appear for the scenes. I think I had to wait 1-1,5 years for the character I wanted to be added for a scene. Gabrielle on the other hand has never been a personal favorite, but I can certainly understand it from others perspective. (I bring her up since I've often seen her being mentioned in the comments here)
But at the end of it, this is for Gabe to address.
I'm trying to find the Kristallia(sp?) trading card again. I had it, loaded a savefile (because I'm a fucking moron) and checked all over the place again without finding it again. I am not quite sure where I managed to miss it.

While you can't see exactly which ones you are missing, the encyclopedia lists all the trading cards for every location.

Why wasn't there any CG scene with Laquadia we've been waiting for years, now we have a chance for that scene and we still don't get it. Also Gabrielle still bangs anything but the Protag because she needs to know him, but dogs and whatever else is fine, cool.

ReplyDeleteOk Gabe, hope you hear me out. A bit of constructive criticism from me about the current status of the game:
ReplyDeleteSo after 5 months of updates we got the frozen continent with 2 towns, 2 new locations and 3 cg scenes.
Of course I can't speak for all participants, but I try to list a few complaints, you can take them on if you want or can choose to ignore it.
Imo the overall production time is really too long considering the amount of content we got. Back then you even did monthly updates on the game, with overall more content (what I mean is if you looked back on the 5 months in which you did an update every month it overall summed up to be more than what we got right now).
On that point, why not hire some additional devs to make production time easier on yourself? Since you (at least from what I got) do everything by yourself and it really shows in the period between your newer releases, from monthyly to bi-monthly to 3-5 months inbetween.
Another point would be the side characters, you add a lot of them and that in of itself creates a huge problem with the nature of the game: as a hentai game you ofc want to fap to it and get lots of scenes with the characters, whereas scenes have production costs and need time to make. For example this Puta Bananas character, is it really necessary to add her to the game, considering the fave and main characters are already getting very few scenes? Also most of the CG work goes to the trading cards which, and please excuse my language, I couldn't give two shits about. It may be personal bias but I really don't like their artstyle and overall content. You can add the characters and trading cards maybe afterwards to the game when you release a Golden Edition of it (as a bonus goal on Patreon maybe).
The next point is moreso on the conception side of things, that being that there are too many artstyles. Ofc I don't want to kink shame anyone, but the beastman-stuff could imo really wait for said Golden Edition, you could still continue the game with the human CG version, so that the game at least gets somewhat going plot- and developmentwise and have the beastman stuff still be made, but added later on to the game, when said artist caught up.
I personally believe that SethXZoe's artstyle is by far the best, which is actually what the portraits are based on and should imo also be the most coherent style, thus it should be on priority.
The last point I want to mention is that the CG scenes are based a lot on bestiality and cum-swallowing, to the point that actual human intercourse became a rarity (I know there are some scenes, even one in the newer update, but the point still remains).
I really want this game to be one day completed and it looks like production really came to a halt with this one, so I just wish for this project to succeed and to you guys to stay healthy!
hmmm i like what was added and the area was cool (but bugged cant get up the ladders in the new cave) but i kind of have to also agree. hell in the start of this games dev you added more on updates and also had shorter times. but unlike others considering this year i think a pass is in order (lots of shit in just the first few months alone would be excuse enough). though someone did post a good idea. why dont u get someone to help out? hell im willing to bet some are willing to make some dungeons and stuff for you where all you might need to do is bug testing/renaming (note just an idea). the main reason i can see is you think how you want the game made might change with more hands (very real worry). but considering how well the story is made (nicely written good twist and such) so longer production is understandable.
ReplyDeletenow here's where your thinking i'm going to go jerk mode but naw. the stuff like cards is fine but would add more to it (think quests like the gwent quests in the witcher 3 for a good idea). now me personally would like more CG scenes but they are nice for what we get. now like most people i would like more (who doesn't?) but i like what we get regardless.
but will say one thing....when is the MC and gab going to have relations of any sort? note i don't mean stuff like that one quest were all thinking. at this point she has all but said "fuck me now" at this point since she said does want to MC so whats up? the only reason i can think of (narratively) is she doesn't want to screw it up? don't know but at this point she is the 4th party member and most others have bedded the MC at this point (not complaining just confused)
Yeah, an update in which only two cities and "dungeons" (sry don't know how to describe them better) were added imo doesn't really excuse almost 6 months of abscence. Heck, at this point I would almost be certain that Gabe could've done a lot more in that time span, but I don't know what her(?) personal life looks like, to which I don't want to make assumptions and be rude or anything.
DeleteTo the fact that the story is well-written I have to semi-agree and disagree at the same time, a lot of important stuff like Van's existence or the MC's mom's existence were added way past the first episode, which to me on one thing grows the assumption that Gabe adds things to the game's story as time goes on (a common thing for story telling, but very dangerous as well - since you can easily write yourself into a corner!) and that at some parts she(?) may have a writing blockade (just my assumption).
That I would at least not only employ a (small) dev team, as far as dungeons go she(?) could let them do the job, as far as story goes she(?) could give them a script to add lines which she could proof-read or change up. And maybe for consistency sake she(?) could employ a script-writer or something of that sort, where she(?) could basically keep track of the story and the progression and open plot points and such.
The Gabe stuff I am also wondering about, maybe it's planned for a certain story event or something don't know. But on a related note, imo there are a loooot of female characters in the game, which not only means more demands for CG but also more work for the illustrators and more time needed to make things happen. As such I would advice that Gabe should only focus on the main girls (the cast, antagonists like Laquadia and Osira, by extension maaaaybe the mom could be counted as such) and add the others afterwards for aforementioned Golden Edition.
One other thing is the inclusion of certain kinks. There is a lot of cum-swallowing and bestiality in the game. Most people already mentioned that they would like more MC-involvement as a sort of self-insertion I guess. Since the game updates very rarily as of late (no front), it has the illusion of not having a lot of scenes with the MC, since every update has about 1-3 scenes, which may not have the MC and do that twice in a row you get said feeling.
So my advice is: do a bit less bestiality and more MC-related stuff for about two updates in a row, then most of the dudes should be pleased. Also when do we get the necklace pics for LoQO:O? (not to take personally, light joke for the end lol)
Not only the Gab - MC scene, MC - Laquadia are expected by the supporters, but also some scenes MC - Old Farah, MC - Opala and various side characters are as well.
ReplyDeleteTechnical side and game mechanics are also need completing, like the affinity system (still no use at all), running anywhere (speed the game up), changing resolution (really need this) and skip button (maybe).
Besides, people are not interested much in the bonus gallery and illustrations, so if you can adjust the time spending on various portions to efficiently make the game more accomplished, more supporters will flock into your patreon. That is the voice of the one hasn't supported and the withdrawn patreons, if you can deliver what they want, maybe they will support and comeback.
Most important thing is the expansion of your game studio or whatever you call it, hire more specialists to work for the game but do it effectively. I see that the beastman and sparrow arts are not welcomed so maybe you can consider stopping or delaying its progress to make way for other fields, especially the game system and mechanics. For example of a successful case is NTL-Media, just in 2 years, from a single dev with around 100~200 patreons to a studio on top 5 of NSFW game patreon. He delivers what the people want most in an amazing pace, hires more people to increase the content and quality with each update (15-days cycle), not for months or years.

DeleteMy 2 cents to the ongoing H-scene discussion as I feel as a fellow game developer I have something to add... I don't see anything wrong with MC getting 50% of H-scenes at all, that seems fair enough.
ReplyDeleteIn life, nobody gets everything too. Unsurprisingly, people have sex with others too. It would be unrealistic to have MC in all the scenes and I believe it would ag against the LOQO spirit of the series.
Also, who's willing to say those voyeuristic scenes aren't hot?
If Gabe feels 50/50 ratio is the best one the he should proceed with it.
If you really want to cater to MC fans more, the best thing you can do is give those scenes a priority and push the non-MC scenes for later updates or a Golden Edition. For the love of all, just don't cut content or change your vision. There's nothing worse that forcing a game developer to go against his vision and can quickly lead to the end of development so all you people asking for these changes, be careful what you wish for.
With that said, I'm more concerned with the speed of development. It has really been winding down as of late. Maybe it's time for a longer vacation Gabe or another dev joining you with some tasks, so you avoid the burnout?
