Legend of Queen Opala: Origin - Magihound

Thuesday update again, it almost feels like there is one every week!

So let's begin with the results of the previous poll as always, this time you fans where asked if you'd like being able to romance any of the two suggested "furries" listed in a previous update entry.

I wanted to say we had a record count of 8227 votes, but sadly one or more people cheated and rigged the poll with around 1000-2000 votes.

Both of them
Won by 47%, being 3886 of the votes.
None of them
Second with 33%, 2796 of the votes.
Layla
Came third, 13% with 1079 of the votes.
Nipha
Came last, 5% with 466 of the votes.

Since it's a bit harder to judge a clear winner with the cheating, I'd say the result was around 50-50 on if any furries should be available for romance or not.

Either way, the illustration this week is of the new species I'm introducing to the nation of the Beldorian Empire, they're called Magihounds and works as partners for knights in the Beldorian Forces, assisting them with spells for those knights who aren't capable of using magic themselves and being excellent trackers.

This specific one shown in the art is currently named Kythe and belongs to the protagonist, he will also be a partymember you'll gain on your journey!

And that'll be all for this week!

  1. Red underside? I can think of one other red part of his body, which also just happens to be on his underside too.

I hope the protagonist has taught him a few "tricks" before the adventure.

    3. Name him Red XIII? Oh wait, he was a cat right? Oh well, Black LXIX it is, though there doesn't seem to be a 69 option in the poll... Just pointing that out. Oh well, I'll just do what I always do, use the default name, since I like to use Canon names.

BTW I always wondered how does new game + fit in to canon? Jake obviously used the orb, as several new game + events are referenced to in LoQO II and there is at least one new game + event in the first LoQO that is an obvious reference and tie-in to the sequel.

Did an alternate time line form after using the orb?

If so, which time line does LoQOII take place in?

Are their alternate timelines for every combination of choices or only two for LoQO and three for LoQOII (Since you can only use the orb once in the first game, but you can use it twice in the second game.)?

Will the alternite timelines ever play a part in the main plot or a side quest?

Also, I have a question about Offbeater backer rewards. Since you only got funding for Legend of Queen Opala: Origin Episode 1, you are going to need to make one or two more Offbeater projects, right?

Will the backer rewards be the same as the ones you had for the last Offbeater project or will there be different rewards for each project?

What about the in-game rewards, like the items or the battle skin for Farah? Will they stay the same or will there be new backer items and skins/costumes for each project? I'm one of those people who like to have all in-game content, even if it's just a few items or a in-battle costume.

Sorry for the long list of questions.

There was no way to edit my post, so I deleted the last one a re-posted it with the edit. I just left out a small sentence, but it was bothering me, so I had to fix it.

  2. 50/50 , Should be an option if you want to romance with the furies before the game begins, that way everyone is happy :):)

    The art is looking awesome

    2. Should just made it your Choice Gabe , I think that's the best option then there's no problem. Can promise that Layla will be able to be romanced ? please :) , i just think if the option is there to do it, yer go ahead romance with them :P , if other people don't like it, then they should leave it. That sound alright? I'm not really into furriers myself , but Layla ... (bulge in pants) HOT

  3. A dog that uses magic, that is awesome. Also, if there is not at least one optional illustration of Kythe and Sebastilion having their way with Opala then something is wrong with this world.

Keep up the great work Gabe!

    3. Your beautifully pervy mind is simply to preoccupied right now with thinking of ways to keep us other pervs (your fans) happy and contented.

Also, it's to bad about the poll rigging. I for one voted fairly for both of those lovely ladies, and I really hope that they both still wind up featured in LoQO: Origin. I can already picture some of the potential sexcapades that Layla in particular could have with the PC and Farah.

  4. Even if you added the Layla and Nipha votes to "Both of Them" it was still only 50/50? Awww, I was hoping for lots of Layla... ;_;

    1. Nah, adding Layla and Nipha votes to "Both of them" would give that option a larger advantage to "None of them". :3

  5. Were the riggers really on the "both of them side" or was it not possible to discern what votes they were? (I dont know how it works >.>) because I would have thought that the riggers might have been on the anti-furry side because thats usually where much hate comes from (of course there are many people too who argumentate their dislike in a peaceful manner, so no offense to the peaceful ones)
And to the current poll: I hope that you will surprise us with a good mix of everything since I think you had a good feeling for diversity. And I dont know how you do it but you do probably talk a bit with sparrow too about how the pics could be so his opinion might be really good too, but I dont know how you do the ideas that would be interesting too.
I am totally open for surprises^^ Just do what you feel like^^

    1. The rigger was on the "Both of them" side, the votes came like clockwork at one occasion...which mean other "record" polls could've been rigged too, I was just too naive to notice it. :P

    3. ah ok thanks for the quick reply^^ I really hope the rigger has noticed that after this it doesnt make sense to do it anymore I was so glad that both of them were so popular and I thought that maybe many people would love these characters (I would have at least thought that Nipha would be really popular, or maybe the people were curious if you would make a new character if none of them were in it)
It is always kinda interesting to know what everyone thinks even though I, like most people of course want my favourite poll category to win >.>
And I still look foward to every week^^ Thanks for the weekly surprises even though we had a birthday update you took the time to do the weekly :D

  8. The horse lady is going to attract a lot of hate because she is deep within furry territory and a lot of people hate furries. The catgirl on the other hand will still appeal to people who don't like furries.

  9. Shouldn't the side that's caught cheating automatically lose? I don't really care about the results, but the people who where fucking with the votes shouldn't be rewarded.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That could just make things worse, as cheaters could rig the other side intentionally to have them "win" but be disqualified for it.
If I start pointing fingers, it only ends up punishing those who voted fairly.

    2. Lol good ol corrupt voting. Reminds me of real word politics. Hopefully all the polls havn't been rigged.

Your the judge. Do your best. :)

  10. Yeah i think i saw rigging as early as the who sexes what vote where certain choices would get 500+ votes in a day when the others would barely get anything. So I was suspecting rigging but you didn't say anything so I thought it may have been chance.

  12. It's been well over 10 years since I commented on anything in blogspot, and I break my silence in order to say two things.

    1) Your game is the reason I even started getting into game designing.
    2) Layla. Please Layla. All of the Layla. All day, every day, all night. Find it in your heart to give her a spot somehow, she'd got that whole Virtuous Slut thing going on and so well executed at that.

  13. A dog which can cast spells? Is it sentient?
Regarding poll, looks like furry character has it's demand, but we're already reaching critical mass of companions. There is already 8 of them, which is a lot.

    1. Naturally! This is the LoQO universe after all, Sebastilion is pretty much sentient too.

  14. Gabe, neat to see Kythe! I think you do a good job of handling the fantasy aspect of a fantasy game. Too many people seem to think fantasy means "Medieval Europe, but with magic," but you've done a great job both leveraging other settings like Egypt and especially populating them with fantasy creatures and characters.

The Magihound design is nicely done. The thick upper body implies strength, and the ridgeback is reminiscent of more wolf-like canines. Also the blue irises in black eyes is a great fantasy look. Is the red/black coloration for all Magihounds, or specifically for Kythe?

Also agreeing with the other comments for a Kythe and Sebastilion scene, whether they're sharing Opala or competing with each other or what have you!

As a side note, just caught Sparrow's Eclipse Clan image on HF. Was that in LOQO2? Maybe I need to go back and play it again! It did seem like there were a few open plot threads at the end, and an image like that only brings up more. I hope we'll get more reveals and answers throughout the Origin episodes.

    1. All Magihounds share the same fur pattern, just like all Huskies or German Shepards etc. look alike.
Kythe is the only one with blue eyes though, the others have more of a purple tint to them. :3

No, that family meeting illustration never made it into the game, I think the art was done after the game was already completed.

      Delete
    2. Ah, neat! I do like how you handled Kythe's eyes, the blue contrasts well with his fur colors.

And Gabe, thanks for doing a good job responding to your fan community. It's really appreciated that you do read comments and even take them into account for things like difficulty adjustment. You are actually doing a much better job than some game studios I've backed on Kickstarter. Glad I backed this project and I'm looking forward to Beta testing. Definitely will back future episodes as well!

Oh, and before I forget - it's awesome that Sparrow did even more art of the game characters. His art works well with the game characters, because he handles the personalities you write in game well - especially characters like Eclipse! Definitely want to see more of that story revealed, especially since it seems like you have a whole family thought out.

  15. Shouldn't the dog's name be Serge? Also, you shouldn't be able to name the dog Chrono. See what I did there? I'm just surprised I'm the first person to make this joke in the comments... Come on guys, aren't there any Chrono Trigger/Cross fans here?

In all seriousness, looks great. Glad to see my dog will be able to join me in "jolly cooperation" (Yes I made a Dark Souls reference and a Chrono series reference in the same comment, I like both, get over it.).

Shame about the rigging and I say this almost entirely because I was looking forward to a furry/MC threesome. Oh and was I the only one who wanted Nipha as much if not more then Layla? Maybe it's just because I have a cat girl/anthro fetish...

Oh well, game will be great, even if I can't have my furry waifus.

    1. Now when I think of it, I think the protagonist's dog/cat in LoQOII was by default named Chrono...so it joke is in full circle now. xD

    2. We do not talk about Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross as if the latter is a sequel to the former (no matter how many times SE tries to push it as such when they have Radical Dreamers acting more like a true sequel).

      Delete
    3. Meh, I'll take what I can get. It might not be the ideal sequel, but I'd rather have a less then perfect sequel to Chrono Trigger then something like the garbage they put out now. Can you imagine a Chrono game like the FF XIII series? I'd rather they leave the Chrono series as it is.

As for Radical Dreamers, I think it ties into canon somehow, though I can't remember the specifics. It's the Chrono series, so probably an alternate timeline or dimension.

Come to think of it, I only played through Radical Dreamers once. I lost the hard drive the translated rom was on shortly after I finished it and I was too busy at the time to worry about it... Might as well take of that now, since I've got some free time. Thanks for reminding me about that.

    4. There does not appear to be a way to edit my comment, so I'll simply add what I have to say here. I agree that Chrono Cross was not the Chrono Trigger sequel I and a lot of other fans were hoping for and there were a lot of things that were cut or rejected that probably could have gone a long way to making it at least a bit better (One thing that comes to mind is Guile (Alf in the Japanese version) being Gil/Magnus which would have been a nice tie-in, not only to Chrono Trigger, but also Radical Dreamers. Fun fact: In the Japanese version of Chrono Trigger Magnus is called Maoh, which means Demon King in Japanese, which is both his "name" and the title the demons/fiend/mystics call him.). It was a good game, but as a sequel to Chrono Trigger it fell short. However, as things are now with SE, I'd rather we just let the "continuity" of the Chrono series end at Chrono Cross, rather then having SE butcher another of their franchises. That's all I'm saying.

  16. Honestly I think Gabe should just go with what she wants to add to the game primarily. I'm surprised people would even vote against these two being included. Nipha has been a character since the first game, and has avoided getting banged by our characters for too long! lol

Same with the Monster/Animal sex. It lost the poll but probably more because they were two separate options. Probably would have done better if they had been one option since they are almost same fetish anyway. If Gabe likes it then don't leave it out just because of polls which even if not rigged are only a small number of the audience anyway.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Regardless of the size of the audience that the polls catch it's still a vocalization of their wishes and to ignore them wouldn't be the best idea. However I would very much like to see a "developer's cut" version of the game released some time after the game is finished which would include the content that Gabe would've liked to put in but was turned down by the polls. That way that content would be optional instead of forced... all I know is that I've been itching to teach Nipha a thing or two about returning favors ;-)

Regarding human/monster poll. I swear I saw, that one day all options were going close (with protagonist being first and humans being last) and next day it was the way it's now. Oh well.
      Sixtywatt
I suppose it's not about cutting out content which people could not like, since everything except main quest scenes is purely optional. It's about spending resources on things people do like the most.

  17. Question: Will you be able to skip previously read text on a new game+. 'Couse I pretty much remember most of the text and the choices I made. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hmm...It might be possible to include something like that.

      Delete
  18. Well the furry romance option is just that isn't it, optional, so the people who are consistently voting no just seem to want to keep that content away from those of us who want it. If it was mandatory then I could see them not wanting it but with, if i'm not mistaken, 9 other romance options then why not let those who want the furries have them? Since the votes for them to be allowed and not to be allowed seem fairly close and if Gabe want's them in then I don't see why they shouldn't be due to those who want it can pursue them and those who don't can pursue the other romances.

  19. Quick question (not sure if this was asked before)
Will Audio scenes make a comeback? Honestly In LoQO I those were my favorites and I was kinda disappointed they weren't in LoQO II. Also, aside from the main three (as usual) will the other women have voices?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Audio only scenes will likely never come back, too many people complained about it and/or actually thought it was a bug.
And most, if not nearly all, of the romance-able women will be voiced. :3

      Delete
    2. As a prank, you should give them all deep, manly voices. Just imagine all the fans, getting ready for the sex scene, a hand on the crown jewels and then to hear Gabrielle sound like Ron Swanson. Hands will shot out of pants at light speed.

    3. That would SO kill any possibility to ever make another crowdfund again. XD
