Legend of Queen Opala - Origin Ideas

First of all, please make sure to check the previous blog entry if you haven't already and follow the link to cast your vote for Legend of Queen Opala - Origin over at Offbeatr!

I must just say I'm slowly starting to realize how much I was limited in LoQOII, believe it or not.
The closer the Legend of Queen Opala - Origin gets to the needed vote number, the more I understand how much more I can do with a game when I have that amount of money I'm aiming for...I'm talking original battleposes, sprite pixels and such for the game.
In the recent few days, that has made me overflow with ideas and excitement for the next game!

As I'd be allowed to create a fully designed protagonist, without having to choose between already made poses, and create enemies not found in any other RPG Maker game before mine, so here is a few of the ideas I'll put into LoQO - Origin if I'm allowed to reach the funding goal.

The game will take place in the Beldorian Empire, located to the far west of Namaria, making it possible Festival Island "could" be one location shared between the Beldorian Empire and the Kingdom of Namaria.
While the two countries are somewhat similuar, the Beldorian Empire is more advanced and have perfected steam machines, which is used within the army as they prepare for war with a mysterious, unknown menace slowly overtaking Namaria and spreading closer by the day.
(Though not a very unknown menace, if you've finished LoQOII)

Unlike previous games, both the protagonist and main antagonist will change outfits as the game progress, with the protagonist of course being able to switch whenever he wants, changing costumes doesn't only change colors, but can be anything from armor to civilan clothing, changing both how the character looks while exploring, as well as in battle.

In short...All I can say is, I have big plans. :D

  1. Since you ran up to the map limit in LoQOII, could that prove to be a problem in origins?

    1. Nah, one has to remember nearly 100 of those 995+ maps alone were due to Tower of Despair. x3

    2. Been ages since I played around with RPG Maker (close to 10+) I'm guessing you can "Cheat" the map count and link to to same map for different points of the story? For instance in ToD I take it you made less than 100 maps and had it randomly choose from a list of maps when going up the tower? Not sure if the map has to have the same monsters or not to matter.

  2. That sounds like a pretty good stretch goal, extra outfits for your hero and his followers to wear.

  3. Can't wait to see what you're going to come up with.

  4. That is some big.. big plans there if you know what I mean :P

    Keep Going :)

  5. Origin, the beginning/start of a series of events. With that logic, then this game must be a precursor to the events of the first LoQo. If I remember, a previous post said you were thinking of making this story based on Farah. So if the story is based on a different region, does that mean that Farah isn't actually Egyptian? Or is it possible that Farah was born in Egypt, and the *SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T DEVELOPED RELATIONSHIP WITH FARAH* imprisonment/enslavement takes her to the nation of Beldoria?

I guess what I'm really asking is, how are you going to tie in Farah's back story with LoQo Origins?

And good luck. I'm looking forward to this one as much as I did the second one. (Not sure if you read any of the things being said on ULMF or not, but don't change anything about your style.)

    1. Explaining what exactly make this game a prequel/sequel would be a spoiler, so I can't really go into detail...though for anyone who spent time with Farah at taverns during LoQOII, knows she isn't from Egypt, she only got there when the Pharaoh "bought" her. ^^

  7. Gabe, great to hear your ideas for how to expand and improve content for LOQO-Origins! As of this comment the campaign is at over 800 votes, so we can look forward to kicking it off soon.

I like the idea of Festival Island being a shared location, and I hope the minigames will be brought back. That kind of puzzle or other non-combat gameplay really adds a lot to the game experience.

It seems like you have a lot of ideas for the story and setting, not to mention designs for the character and new enemies and such. I hope you can balance that with the core content people look forward to in LOQO!

  8. Does this mean we won't be seeing Osira or Opala~?

    1. My favourite character is Osira. This new game is a little bittersweet for me. However, I'll take any new game over no game at all though.

Though LOQO games usually have monster rape etc. What I really love is the romance aspect of the game. (I normally just skip over those events) I was looking forward to romancing Osira. If that option is available in the golden edition, then I guess I'll make do with that.

Thank you so much for making these games. I really enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed voiced out sex scenes found in the first game. That is the main reason why I still play the first game from time to time. (sheepish grin)

I really love the characters you made. Some guys even created models based off your character in other games. (Artificial girl 3)

    2. Another possibility is time travel. Osira and Opala go back in time and join their mother who is around their age.

    3. Osira and Opala will be in it, don't worry. :3

    4. Scary thought....a nice Osira.....She wasn't always an evil power hungry woman, but the site of her as an innocent child breaks my mind.

  10. to answer my own question had to speak to the bartender arrgghh so much grinding i need to get lunch before this game stresses me out

  11. I'll have to agree with some of your ideas but would it not be easier with the VX ace instead for costumising everything if you have XP there is also the map limit.
I would like to see some more minigames in this one like the festival Island games from the first LOQO.

  12. I have a few petitions/ideas:

First, if it's possible, make the alignement options count more and have more impact on the characters and story events. I mean, I had one run being the good guy, and on my second run, as much as I tried to be a mean soab, the only changes were the guy that confronts you in shabera palace, and the summary epilogue lines after you beat the game. It was quite dissapointing.

Second, I guess this will come along when balancing the game combat system but I want to stress this out: please, make mages useful.
Both Murdock and Iliona are pretty weak since the beggining, and even with high level and best gear, the only good way to do decent damage is via melee attacks with onix weapons. Their spells become obsolete very quickly and by the time you get their ultimates they cannot compare with the damage output of any other characters, save for the clerics, and even them can be easily replaced via items once you have enough money.

And finally, and I may be pouring salt on the wound, but try to beta test a little bit more about the game difficulty and grinding. I love your game, but a had to spend hours training and gathering materials for better gear to have a chance with the later bosses. I know grinding and overpower the characters is a must in a rpg but it should not be a necesity to enjoy the game.

Ok, that said, let me congratulate you for the best amateour hrpg I've ever played. Most of them, focus on the hentai part and are generally are just a lame excuse to put a fuckfestival on a dull rpg. But you actually created and devoloped a story and some very good characters, you have plot twist and tons of secrets and collectibles.

    Again, great job.

    1. Agree with the mages except for Wolfgang who was really good the magic is pretty useless in the end from the start to middle there good but in the end Useless.

    2. How do I recruit Wolfgang btw? Is the only one I'm missing to get the archivement :S

    3. From what I heard, you can only get him in New game Ultra.

  13. One thing I would certainly suggest is unifying the party and sex partners system - there's no reason not to run it as a harem story of sorts, with your main character and his girls getting into adventures and getting up to all sorts of hanky-panky.

Also, sex slaves. Can we have those? Hot, slutty, submissive sex slaves.

  14. And actually...

Since monster rape is such a common thing, I was really hoping in LOQO II that part of the main character's heritage might involved him becoming a little more, well, monstrous. Any chance of a monstrous main character in this game?

    1. Sounds good to me, but I don't see how it could be implented without branching all the scenes in the game (temporal transformations?).
Anyway I'd like to choose not just appearance, but class of main character as well.

      Delete
    2. Class of the leader in most rpgs is a swordsman. I think thats what Gabe is going with. To prove my point, Final fantasy games all have a swordsman leader/main character. Two worlds has a group of orcs that are lead by a warrior swordsman.

In my opinion, having a brutish ax weilder as a leader seems kind of stupid of the people following. The only weapon I can really think of as maybe being a better leader weapon is a battle spear (What Phalen uses)

  16. Glad that you'll be able to do more than what you were limited to on your free time. Just don't overwhelm yourself with this, despite already two games with the second already being huge with the limitations, I want you to do your best and be satisfy with what you create. It's for the fans yes but I would like you to be satisfied with the way it comes out first and foremost.

    1. Also meant to add you may want to do what others do on Kickstarter and allow people to still donate to you towards the game and other stretch goals that are met. I know we can donate now but there have been projects where a stretch goal was met after Kickstarter ended due to people still donating to the cause.

  17. For combat, will it still be the same 4 person active party? It would be neat to have the ability to switch in and out members in the party and it would allow for more variation when fighting enemies (ex. enemies super strong to physical and weak to magic).

You should consider rebalancing mages since they usually get outclassed by physical attackers. At least it would give mages some use since loqo 1 and loqo 2 favored more towards teams that had 3 physical attackers and one healer.

For the most part, I think you did a good job at enemy balancing, liked the enemy balancing in loqo 1&2. The only problem is the one everyone mentioned where enemies get a massive boost in hp, def and att during episode 3. Even then, it wasnt too hard since by that point people have access to team buffs, but the problem was that fights would drag out too long and the low quality items given by the enemies made it more efficient to just skip fighting them.

It would be neat to give exp to people outside of combat also, but just remember that all these are just suggestions off the top of my head, excited to see where this project goes.

    1. Also adding since I forgot, is there any way to make the game faster or is the slow speed just from the rpg maker engine? It feels slow for me, so i had to use the speedhack from cheat engine set to 3.5x-4.0x

  18. I thought of something just now it could be the time The league of Perverts started several other stuff like the history of Namaria and the Beldorian Empire.
Other Characters that maybe were in the background of LOQO 1-2 could still be there.

  19. Gabe could you answer this as im little bit confused in your goals at 75,000 it says that "one of the romance interests" meaning there will be mutiple and then it says that if you donate 1,500 you get to romance Farah does that mean Farah is not one of the romance options normally? the reason im confused is that Farah is the main lead usually in games you get to romance the main lead and its usually strongly advised to romance the main heroine

    1. No, it just means that pledge gives the donator a exclusive scene with Farah...the fine print being "A" exclusive scene, as in one out of others. :3

  20. You should totally think about dropping the needless amounts of grinding when you start creating Origin. I loved the original LoQO to bits due to great level pacing throughout the main plot, but in LoQO2 I've had to spend around 10+ hours thus far just beating the same enemies time and again just to beat Altum on the first playthrough. The lenghty grinding sections are bloat, which isn't a good thing to have. Not saying you should get rid of it, but there's just too much of it at the moment.
Also, the weapons. Onyx weapons are roughly twice as powerful as the party member specific legendary weapons, which is pretty silly, since they are mostly easier to get.

You might also want to think on making sure every place has more uses than one; as it stands, Guild of Heroes and Odyssa are pretty much useless locations, with the Guild having much more potential behind it. Though if I've read correctly, you sort of ran out of time on LoQO due to popular release demand, so maybe you did have plans for it.

My last suggestion is pretty simple; hire someone to proofread for you. I always have someone proofread the stories, essays and such I write so they wont have much grammatical errors, such as "an" where there should be "a." A small thing, but something that cant be stressed enough.

Anyway, I'm on new game ultra at the moment and pretty much done everything soonish. Took around 40 hours, too, which is the longest I've bothered with any RPGMaker XP game. Though things started mysteriously going faster after my acquisition of the Blade of Ahrodo...

  21. Is Gunpowder listed as Explosives in the game? I saw a trophy labeled 'Used Gunpowder to bust all the breakable walls in the game', but all I have are Explosives (and I had to use a save game editor to get them, since non of the shops I've been to sell them). And do I need to be in NG+ or Ultra in order to use them? I've finished the main story and am busy recruiting all the available characters, but I still can't use my explosives except for when I'm in a battle or in a shop wanting to sell them. Every other time they're greyed out, and whenever I walk up to a breakable wall I just get the "Hmmm, this wall looks really weak. Too bad I don't have something strong to break it down." text, and that's it. I still can't use my explosives. Could someone please help me?? I really want to get Emeralda in my party, but I can't because I can't use my explosives.

I'm happy to (and have already) help anybody I can with their problems provided it's something I've already done, so could get a hand? Also, could someone tell me how to locate Eclipse? He's nowhere near the Twin Towers right now, I've checked several times already during the day and night, so I must be missing a specific trigger.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Explosives were never meant to be used for walls, thats why they aren't working and why the trophy says Gunpowder...if you haven't found the shop that sells Gunpowder, it simply means you haven't visited all shops. :3

      Delete
    2. The option to use explosives comes automatically when you check a weakened wall, ergo, the ones you can blow up. Just interact with a cracked wall and that should do.

Eclipse will show up in your house (greenfield) once you have beat the game, challenging you to a figth. So until you haven't finished the story, there is nothing you can do.

      Delete
    3. I believe the gunpowder is in the ball man shop in thebes. They should cost around 2500 gold(Unless I'm thinking of something else)

      @Sobrero
There are 8 ultimate post game bosses, Eclipse being one. While I won't say who the other ultimates are, I can give a small idea of where to look for them. Get in your boat and search the high seas. Beat the tower of despair, seeing everything there is to see. Valethorn has a deep secret. The Temple of Crystals opens new dungeon when all crystals are active. The place where no roads lead. Garden of (Anakut?) in thebes. Did you meet a giant dragon?

Anyway, I think I've given way to many spoilers to the Post game, so I'll stop while I'm ahead

  22. Gabe, I've noticed something while fighting the Ultimates. Three of them make mention of "The One" And how Kai and his party could possibly be the answer to that problem. Does this get explain in new game Ultra? Is it by any chance related to a certain green haired character who is supposed to show up?

And I wanted to tell you about a small glitch I found. If you beat Bastorahl, you get the orb of restoration. You can beat him multiple times in each playthrough(If your hunting for the bad ends like I have been), so you end up with quite a few. When using the orb on New game +, it says that the orb can only be used one more time to create Ultra. I tested it out, and, if you use an extra orb in Ultra, it still lets you go back to the beginning of Ultra.(Just something that you might look at for the Golden edition. Not much you can do with it already being finished right now.)

  23. First, let me say how awesome it is to see how much passion you have for LOQO III.

Second, working with custom sprites sounds great. One little suggestion, remember the Giga Lardo that fucked Osira and had his cock hanging out, just thinking since the creatures in the games don't wear clothes and are animals it would be alot more realistic (and fun to fap too) if they all had exposed genitalia.

Third: Again with custom sprites adds the option for sprite sex, games like Adventures of Garnet or Zaubur had awesome sprite sex (but not your drive to actually finish a game). It would be nice for simple stuff, for example the hero can fuck a harpy when he is bored or Farah lets a dog mount her when everyone is just chilling at the heros house.

    1. BEST IDEA EVER!!!!! I've always liked sprite sex games, and it would be a nice addition to a game that already has all the components ready for one(Though I don't like the idea of the main being part of the sprite sex. I think his stuff should stick to pics.)

  24. Gabe, I've been a huge fan ever since I first encountered Opala, Osira, and Farah on HF, and I've been in love with the Royal Family ever since. After playing the first two games, I decided to try making my own games for a living like you've begun to do. I've been trying to learn in RPG Maker XP and it's been going well so far, and I even have some friends who agreed to help me in production, but I have some questions concerning finances, if you have time to answer them, I mean. If you can get back to me at your leisure, I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks for everything :)

  26. my idea
1.you can choose hero genders : male female or futanari
2.new kinds magical growth pills not just enlarge hero penis but maybe can make another or secondary penis or balls
3.hero can have jobs like tailor, blacksmith, hunter, alchemist, bard, etc or even nasty jobs like pimp, gigolo/whore and each job give hero some buff or passive skill
4.on battle hero can seduce monster girls to fight with him or maybe just rape the monster girls to gain some buff

I have many other idea but just that for now
    sorry for my english
