Legend of Queen Opala: Origin - Update

Tuesday update, yes, it really is one of those again!
Support me and production of the LoQO games at - Patreon

Oih, tired developer is very tired...
I really wish they would be more considered about the residents in the appartment and do all the incredibly loud drillings the four hours after 12AM, rather than the four hours before it...
The ear protectors I bought does help make the noise more manageable, even if that makes me sleep bad for other reasons, but nothing four cups of coffee stacked in a row doesn't fix.

So yeah, even in zombie mode, I feel rather confident the next beta will be released this weekend.
It'll add more story, more tradings cards, more unlockable illustrations, one new mini-scene, one mini-game for Gabrielle, add Ra'Tiki to your party/camp AND make Master Hen'Tai show up!
Oh, and it'll also add a couple of new areas to previously seen locations as well!

Aaaand that'll be all for this week!

  1. Wait, 4 hours after 12AM? Isn't that illegal?

    1. *The 4 hours after 12AM I meant.

    2. The hour after 12AM is 1PM...unless I've got it wrong, 1PM is afternoon. x3

    3. Yep, I thought it was illegal to make noise polution until atleast 5PM since many people sleep during that time.

    4. I'm not sure, I can only confirm they start drilling 8AM in the morning, and usually goes on doing it until 12AM...then they stop, and do things you can barely hear until 4PM.

    5. Oops I kinda misread the actual post lol. I thought they were doing the drilling after 12AM, you could technically file a complaint then. But since they are doing it before 12AM then there isn't much you can do :C. That sucks, I know how crappy it is to not being able to sleep in until late.

  3. So what version would the next beta release be?

    1. Thanks! I'd really avoid using pills if you're trying to catch up on sleep. They're more like a sedative and more or less knock you out. The body doesn't actually relax and recharge during that time, as it is not real sleep. I usually use something like Valeriana, which can be purchased in pretty much every pharmacy. It's natural (tastes bad though) and helps me relax and sleep better. Just some friendly advice ;-)

    2. Never a good idea to mess with anything that can affect brain chemistry or in the case of sedatives the central nervous system anyway. Always has the potential to screw with your sleep paterns and it's a bastard to fix that -_-

  4. Or I try to distract them with boobies.

  5. Boobies, every man's weakness but especially effective against construction workers.

  6. Just a shame you can't really sleep or work if you keep standing pushed up against a window.

  7. I'm starting to think it's a running joke in your games that there's always at least one npc that can't figure out how to light a fireplace. I know your pain Gabe, the neighbor I used to live next door to seemed like she had remodeling going on year around and they always started at the crack of dawn, was even worse when she got a tar driveway the smell took weeks to go away

    1. Lol, really now...? I honestly didn't know I always added one. x3
      Oh yeah, one can only hope it won't be all month because I know they have other repairs coming up too, except this will be road repairs right outside my window. >>;

    1. I'm not sure if I understand, the other games didn't had the camp feature. x3

    2. Pretty sure all the conversations with party members is now done in the camp feature

  9. Your situation reminds me of a bit in the Hentai moves Women at work. There is an artist who works all nigh and sleep all day, but the construction is keeping her awake, so they send a guy over to her everyday to give her anal sex and tire her out so she can sleep. ;-)

Or you can just invite them in yourself and show them Farah in action, they will be so busy jerking themselves off that they won't work and you can sleep.

  10. You're such a hard worker! Don't worry; you're not alone in having to deal with apartment construction noises keeping you up at night. Keep doing your best and I'll hope you get some great rest once all this is over!
Also really excited to see the beta

  12. Hey Gabe, any chance of adding an exp share type of item? Cause party members still only gain exp when they're in the active party, if loqo2 is any indication, and it'd be nice if we could catch them up to speed in a hurry.

    1. There has been items that raise EXP and Level Up since LoQO2.

  13. Hey Gabe, I was just curious if there are any more plans for the summer cove and gentlemen's club areas in LoqoO and if so would we get to see those in episode 1 or later on?

    1. To say would be a spoiler, so I'm just saying episode 1.

    3. Well it isn't a thing, it's just a joke condition that came up on a previous blog update that had no pic.

      Delete
    4. Well in knew it was a joke lol but I didn't known if it was a joke you came up with just now or Gabe came up with a while ago or something

  15. FFS Gabe, why did you have to end the new beta just after that little nugget of info from the mayor!? Sounded like we were about to meet two old friends.....

Quick question, how much story is left in between where this beta ends and where Epi1 officially ends?

    1. Woah woah woah, did you go to the crimson forest at all? Cause there is story there too

    2. What remains of episode 1, storywise - you enter mansion, goes to another location, meanwhile in a cavern...the end!

Obviously crypted to avoid spoilers, but it's very close to the end. :3

    3. So an episode 1 release could occur in mid to late February?

  17. Hi Gabe,
I was wondering if you could give a small hint to where the 'new' mini-scene can be discovered ?

I've searched every location I can think of... and still nothing

    1. I think it might be Gabrielle's tavern wench challenge scene, but I hope not. I'm looking too then again I did it from where the last beta left off. Maybe it's found near the beginning

    3. Small hint: Brightstone and window.

      Delete
    4. OOOH haha thanks that was a pleasant surprise. You know what got me though? I always thought the woman he was looking at was the lusty noblewoman that's lives in brightstone cause their houses were in the same place.

    5. Took me a while as well because that part had no functions whatsoever before. Illumi's second/alternative scene took me a while as well (second playthrough).

      Delete
    6. Are you saying there is another Illumi scene besides the original intro and first reward?

      Delete
    7. Talking about the western/eastern variations I assume, since I think you need more than 20 shards that is the current version maximum to get the next scene.
Also, question to Gabe: is the number of shards tracked by a separate variable that awards you with the proper amount of shards on restarting a playthrough? Because my collection states I've gathered 20, but I get 15 on resetting with an Orb. I assume this is only because the 15 shard items are required for the Ilumi scene, allowing for consequent collections of different art versions.
Will there be an "unlock all art" kind of item in the final version, by the way?

  18. man, that golem was hard to beat. I probably spend a few hours just farming so all of my teammates had he best equipment.
Can I buy more lockpicks somewhere? I failed horribly at lockpicking and destroyed them all. Although it would be interesting if there was a finite number of lockpicks in the game like "you failed there? Sorry but burglars get no second chances"

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't know that failing to pick locks broke lock picks. Is that why there is a bunch of places I can't unlock?

      Delete
    2. Noooo...you fail at higher tier locks if you don't have the additional equipments, but you never break a lockpick in this game.

      Delete
    3. Ok good. Mekkor where did you get that broken lockpick idea from?

      Delete
    4. My bet is on too much Skyrim.

      Delete
    5. Enemies are a lot easier if you go for a second playthrough using the Orb of Restoration. But bosses like that Golem are necessary because otherwise you'd progress into parts of the game where you have absolutely no chance of winning. It's still an RPG at its core, so leveling and grinding for XP are a central issue.

Right now there's the standard lockpick (tier 1 locks) you get automatically and the torsion wrench (tier 2 locks), which you can buy for one golden token. Some locks still can't be opened (Royal Cottage and some desks), so there's probably a tier 3 lockpick coming soon.

      Delete
    6. How and when do you get a golden token?

      Delete
    7. From the rare golden beetles that appear with a 20% chance (going by Gabe's number here) when entering an area from the worldmap. They can appear in any subsection of an area, so be prepared to scour every cave and check every mob. And kill them fast, because those fuckers don't stay around for long!

With the tokens they drop you can buy several items: The tier 1 art razor for collecting pictures, an item which alerts you if a golden beetle has spawned (before that it's almost blind luck), a torsion wrench (tier 2 lockpick), a lure which increases the spawnrate of golden beetles and and an item which helps you catch animals (no use so far).

The items (rewards) are unlocked by completing certain tasks and receiving titles (e.g. discovering all locations, killing monsters, etc.). Right now many are locked due to the game being limited in scale and features.

    8. god damn it, I'm stupid.
Turns out my sleepiness, combined with 2 more games of equal content made me confuse some things here and there.
I played the current beta again, to see where the part with the lockpicks was and after an hour I realized there is no area in this game nor the character combination like what I remember.
Let's just... move on and pretend I never made that comment.

      Delete
  19. Don't know if it's a glitch or it's not implemented yet but in version 1.0 the torsion wrench doesn't seem to work. It's supposed to open hard locks(Like the one in the King's bedroom) so far as I know but I tried it on a lock in town and it still fails to open the lock. is that normal?
