Legend of Queen Opala: Origin - Offbeatr Fail

Liiiiive from not New York, it's Tuesday night update!
Support me and production of the LoQO games at - Patreon

This week we'll be addressing the issue that is Offbeatr.
All the different pledge rewards including the exclusive in-game items/equipment, Mature Farah Costume and the voiced thank you message from Osira have all been finished since last week with me trying to send them on daily basis ever since...however, Offbeatr is a complete mess and doesn't allow anyone to send messages, and it doesn't let us creators even check our list of pledgers so we can stay in contact and hand out the appropriate rewards to our supporters.

So as of right now, I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to proceed as the rumor has it Offbeatr will soon go under, rather than being fixed.
What I consider the best solution would be to simply offer all my Patreons these same rewards so they can at least be shared, but I fear those who supported me on Offbeatr would feel cheated.
A compromise would be for Offbeatr supporters to consider that Patreon did contributed for the Beastman Mode they wouldn't had the pleasure of experience otherwise, so it'd be a give and take situation.

But again, not everyone might agree with that, so I am in a difficult position.
If you supported me back on Offbeatr, how would this make you feel if I went ahead and did it?

However, next week will be a more cheerful update so I'll see you then as always! :D

  1. Not really sure how I feel, as both an Offbeatr and Patreon supporter, I'm in a very hard position. I know it's not your fault, it's just a hard mess.

Is there any list of the Offbeatrs and how much they paid? I can look for my receipt if that would help.

    1. That's the list Offbeatr won't load, so I can't even manually check person-by-person. D:

    2. Well, I would say "fuck it" just give everyone the rewards and let it be over, but I paid 400 and I know some people paid 1,500 and 2,000. So that would piss a lot of people off.

Offbeatr didn't give me a reciept, so the best I have so some emails where we chatted, and I gave the donation while we talked.

    3. Those who paid those top tier spots already got sorted, or I know who they are since there were so few of them. :)

      Delete
    4. Well in that case, I'd just slip the rewards into the petreon amounts, the more reawards for the higher patreons etc.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, but that's the thing...since I can't tell which ones of my current Patreons used to be Offbeatr supporter, it wouldn't be right to hide the rewards behind higher tiers either since that would make the old Offbeatr supporters potentionally having to pay double for something they should already have...

    6. Yeah, I see that issue. Making the low rewards free is a solution I don't see being unfair.

For the medium rewards, I can't speak for everyone but giving the situation, I'd be satisfied to think that all the money paid can go for it being free to everyone. Not the most fair option but I just hope that this community can band together in the face of this and make this as easy for you as possible.

    7. No...they have a right to give me a hard time. ;)
I can certainly be blamed for taking too long to get the rewards done, that is all on me, but they can't accuse me of what state Offbeatr is in.

    8. I'm all for a fans giving me a "hard time", let them vent themselves. ;-)

Well again, we are your fans, we love your work. Crowdfunding and patronage is proof of that. We don't own anything, we aren't owed anything, we pay to support an artist and give that artist the freedom to continue their art. But yeah this is me being very optimistic and giving, so not everyone would agree but it is a valid point the nature of patronage.

    9. And you're totally one of the good ones. :)
I still facepalm today at those who thought the whole six-months-without-sleep period with all the construction work going was me just faking it.

  2. Looks like Offbeatr is really puting the Off in Offbeatr ya i got nothing, shit joke for a shit situation. :P But hey "everyone" getting it sounds better than none getting it!
Well the only thing i can say is good luck with the damage control you're probably going to need it!

    1. Damage control is only needed if there was something you could've done to prevent it in the first place. D;

    2. Ya but you know there still throwing it in your lap and all the other Offbeatr creators and thats fucked up. >:(

    3. Yeah, but what could one do...?
Fun fact, out of the THREE people running the site, only two of them has any kind of account outside of Offbeatr - Twitter.
One of those two being restricted, the other only having a bunch of spam ads from two years ago.

  3. I am both a offbeatr and patreon supporter, for me it won't really matter because im happy with the game but for the people that donated alot it can be annoying.

  4. I really Don't know what to say tbh. Yep i do feel cheated. Because that is way bad to the Offbeatrs.

And i would love to support on Patreon but not a chance now. Until this has been sorted out completely soreted... maybe that would help.

    1. Band together and sue Offbeatr, it's their fault all creators and supporters alike on the website is getting screwed over.

      Delete
    2. Hopefully it does get sorted out. Noo way i am paying something high again for rewards. And then people can get it way cheaper and not even exclusive at all. :(:(

      Delete
    3. I do hope people understand me not "predicting" Offbeatr would go under and keeping a seperate list of the +500 who supported...that would be like me saying only people who supported and kept their original pledge reciete is entitled to the rewards now. ^^;

      Delete
    4. I have got a reiete in my email's :)

      Delete
    5. Then in your case, you shouldn't have anything to worry about! :D

      Delete
    6. So then i need to contact you then ? how's this going to work.

      Delete
    7. I'll probably make a statement in the next week for everyone who has kept their recietes to mail me personally for their rewards...in case they don't see this, of course. ;D

Just send me a mail with a copy of your reciete and I'll send you the related rewards straight away!

  5. Wow your in a tough situation Gabe it sucks what happen for the people in Offbeatr.

    1. It was a shady site from the very start, but back then, you really had no other choise if you want to get a crowdfunding started and your project involved adult content...and Offbeatr took full advantage of that since they helped themselves to a 30% cut of everything you collected.

      Delete
  6. As an offbeatr and patreon backer I support sharing it especially since it isn't your fault.
offbeatr has been slow and broken a long time now so I am not surprised that it doesn't work right.

I would recommend you contacting the 1000$+ and ask them if possible. It might not be possible to please everyone.

    1. They have already gotten their rewards, it's only those reward tiers I mentioned in the update that is in the danger zone.

      Delete
    2. Well in that case I don't really see the problem the 300 tier have to share a skin + some items?

It would have been rolled in future episodes anyway otherwise you would have to keep several separate builds which would have been problematic at best.

Especially since you would have to "offstart" more episodes with different content. I for one are thankful for patreon.

      Delete
    3. Oh yeah, the game will naturally include the bonus content in the future - though accessing them would technically be "illegal" if you didn't pay for them, but that is no different than hacking console/PC games to unlock pre-order bonuses etc. you didn't purchased.

      Delete
    4. I'm not sure it would be "illegal" since ep2 and ep3 would have to be kickstarted separately there is no rule that ep2 and ep3 cant have content from ep1.

We backed only ep1 and thusly is only entitled to the content from ep1 and thats it.

However when you back projects on kickstarter there are no guarantees at all and most people back projects knowing that.

      Delete
    5. I'm just protecting myself if someone would accuse me to include the bonus content for "everyone" in later episodes, only because they are coded in the game. x3

      Delete
    6. One of the major downsides is one of those donators would eventually list their version online for download for free too, like on ulmf or mega.

      Danger zone? LANAAAAAAAAA

      Delete
  7. That's seems like a lot of money people on offbeatr gave. I started my donations on Patreon after you were a couple of betas in before the construction disaster of 2015. I wouldn't want the offbeatr donators to feel cheated. But giving it to everyone for free sounds nice....

    1. But thanks to Patreon, there is a bright future for my porn-branded games. :D

  8. Ehh I supported both and to be honest if its a choice between everyone getting it and nearly everyone getting nothing, i think its obvious that everyone should benefit. Some people who pledged generously on offbeatr might disagree but, well the site is fucked so its hardly done without good reason.

    1. Offbeatr has been nothing but a clusterfuck of problems, did you know that when messages were still "semi" functional...it had a cooldown period? Each time I had to send out a beta, it took me hours because I had to send it to each pledge tier seperately, some of those had a 20 minutes cooldown before I could send to the next tier.

  10. As a offbeatr supporter i say, fuck it. As long as i get the new stuff. :3

    ReplyDelete
  11. i didn't have the money at the time to back up to the equipment level but i'm fine with everyone on patreon getting the message and pics, one of the other creators on offbeatr sent a survey with an e-mail and a code based on pledge level to put in the subject so he could make a backup mailing list if offbeatr goes down. that might be an idea to try.

  12. turthly it all up to you what you think is right i would like to have all the offbeatr shared cuz i can only do a pledge on one page but again it is up to you

  14. It's been said by others, but as one of the higher tier offbeatr supporters, the game continuing to progress is reward enough to make up for any lost exclusives. I'm okay with previously exclusive rewards being given to all patreon supporters.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm neither, but in general I feel like it should be more important to let every offbeater supporter receive their reward without extra cost than to preserve exclusivity. Especially since really, adding it to patreon doesn't preserve exclusivity anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm just looking at the offbeatr page now and seeing the exact rewards for each tier.
75 dollars gets the CG scenes and the previous rewards.
Personally I'd say 75 and lower is fine for free release, since the CG scenes usually gets released for free later anyway.

But the problem I'm seeing from a mathematical point of view is the rewards above that are 150 plus. In reality, say we take a patreon at 10 a month, it would be over a year of constant patronage before they earn even that reward. And not to sound like Andrew Ryan but only a 3rd of your patreons are over the 10 mark.

I personally think that it would be a bit unfair to make anything over 200 free to release, but that would mean tracking down 120 offbeatr supports for rewards, and I can understand if after all this trouble you rather not spend more time tracking them down.

Personally, looking at the rewards, I'd make 150 and under free, and sadly from a maths and business point of view, I can't really think of 200 and over being released without some kind of effort or payment from the fans, or some kind of compensation from you.

And just to hammer it home, but in no means am I demanding that this is the action you take, you are free to release everything or release nothing as you see fit.

  17. as one of the Offbeatr supporters I say throw it on Patreon.

    ReplyDelete
  18. as long as I still get my custom quest reward, I don't really care

    ReplyDelete
  19. i did pledge on offbeatr and i support you on patreon .. so i'm not all that affected tbh :D

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought I had supported you on Offbeatr, but when I check my history, it only gives me credit for having voted for your project, not for any monetary support. I could have sworn I'd offered a moentary support, but it's too long ago to be certain.

But if I was a paid Offbeatr supporter, I'd say do the best you can. If all you can do is make the rewards available through Patreon, then that's what you have to do. Maybe high-amount supporters from Offbeatr can show you screenshots of ther Support History to show how much they pledged, then maybe you can send them what they were promised.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well I can say that giving it to all of your patreons would certainly make a lot of people happy, probably more so then it would anger. But that's just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I pledged to both at same time im ok with it..

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have no involvement in the whole offbeatr patreon affair so im staying out of that one.
But that doents mean i cant give my idee toward the counsil.

So the council starts and eventually Opala starts her request for help but the opposit sides react completely childish and sexist wich eventualy leads to one the members going towards opala pulling her dress down exposing her in front
of everyone in an attempt to humiliate her.Opala tries to cover herself with her hand and looks for support when
she notice's your group. Now your character is given the choises to (A) react negative ''opala -1'' wich causes opala to pull her dress up.
or (B) react encouraging upon wich opala stand op for herself showing her naked body.
the counsil continous where all the requests the other folks requested to pushed forward.
Eventually it ends and Opala makes her way towards your group.naked or not depening on your choice.
When still naked the main character compliment her body "opala+1"

  24. I donated at the exclusive items tier ($200) on Offbeatr, supported Patreon for a bit until I had to stop because I've gone back to school and simply don't have the income right now. That being said, I donated at that tier because I like having shiny toys to make the grind easier when I typically play RPGs more for story than anything else. I have no problem with more people having access to those same toys. I'd actually be fine if the equivalent was thrown at the $1 tier or even just going in the free game unlocked at NG+ or something. For me the donation was about supporting the game, the tier was because I found it a worthwhile reward to justify that much money and I would have donated more if I could have afforded it at the time. Whatever you decide I won't be upset by.
